History of CASA
CASA of St. Louis County is part of the National CASA Association. This movement was inspired in 1977 when a Seattle judge became increasingly frustrated about making decisions for abused and neglected children without enough information. He launched the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program so that trained and supervised volunteers could help boys and girls in the complicated child-welfare system. With a CASA volunteer appointed to a child’s case, the courts would be better informed and the children would have a voice.
In 1980, a local group of concerned citizens rallied to form the CASA program in St. Louis County. In 2010, CASA of st. Louis County will celebrate an amazing 30 years of supporting children who have suffered from abuse and neglect.
