Go BLUE for CASA Kids
Each year in the United States, almost 1 million children become victims of abuse or neglect (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Child Maltreatment). In an effort to get people talking about this enormous problem and what each individual and organization can do to help prevent it, CASA is asking the St. Louis Community to “Do Something BLUE.”
Doing Something BLUE can be as simple as wearing a blue ribbon to show support for children who have been mistreated or as elaborate as hosting BLUE days or evenings in area businesses, giving customers the opportunity to find out more about child abuse awareness and prevention.
Some ideas for Going BLUE:
At Work:
- Host a BLUE Jeans or Shirt Day – Employees make a donation to CASA in return for wearing BLUE jeans or a BLUE shirt on a chosen day.
- Organize a BLUEberry Muffin Bake Sale – Employees get a BLUEberry muffin for each donation they make to CASA. Companies might also host a BLUEberry baking contest, giving employees an opportunity to see who makes the best BLUEberry muffins, BLUE cookies, or even BLUEberry pancakes!
At Play:
- Encourage your favorite businesses and retailers to go BLUE:
- BLUE Plate Specials – Area restaurants choose a day or week, and donate a percentage of their proceeds to CASA. Restaurants could also offer a particular dish that includes a donation to CASA.
- BLUE Retail Specials – Retail stores choose a day or week, and donate a percentage of their proceeds to CASA. Retailers could also sell CASA’s special BLUE t-shirtsl.
- BLUE Shirt Specials – Dry cleaners make a donation to CASA for every BLUE shirt they clean during a set time period.
- Encourage your friends to go BLUE:
- Patronize BLUE Restaurants and Businesses
- Make a Donation to the BLUE Campaign
- Volunteer at CASA or Join the Friends of CASA
At School:
- Convince your child’s school to go BLUE:
- BLUE Crafts – Teachers can create a BLUE craft with their students.
- BLUE Ribbon Days – Students can wrap BLUE ribbons around trees in the schoolyard to show support for abused and neglected children.
- BLUE Information Distribution – Administrators can allow CASA to distribute information about CASA volunteers and the agency as a whole to students and parents through report cards, progress reports, or homework packets.
At Worship:
- BLUE Information Distribution – Faith communities feature CASA in their hard-copy and e-mail bulletins to congregants. Faith communities might also provide BLUE handbills and other information for worshipers to take home.
